Overview

Altai is beautiful in the winter!

On this tour, we will admire a variety of landscapes – we will see the foothills of Altai, where the first ridges literally “rise” on the edge of the steppe, and one of them is among the highest peaks of Altai – severe four-thousanders covered with eternal ice and snow.

We will visit 2 unique places in Russia: the Swan Lake, on the shore of which we will plunge into the unceasing hubbub of whooper swans and the Bison Nursery, where we will feed the severe bison with carrots.

Remembering our childhood’s joy from winter fun – we will go skiing, sledding and baking cheesecakes.

You will get acquainted with the traditions and culture of local residents – both Russians and Altaians, if you are interested you can take part in interesting master classes.

Brief itinerary

Open All

Day 1. Welcome to Altai!

We will meet you at the airport, visit the city of Gorno-Altaysk, get acquainted with Altai at the National Museum and go to the Swan Lake.

Day 2. Winter fun

Today, the program includes the most interesting activities – riding in a sleigh pulled by three horses, participating in baking bread and drive up a real serpentine to look from above how the steppe meets Altai.

Day 3. We go to the Seminsky pass

In the morning we go to the Seminsky Pass along the old Chuisky tract, on the way we will stop by real bison in the village Cherga.

Day 4. In the kingdom of cedars

We enjoy walks in the cedar forest at an altitude of more than 1800 m. In the morning we will have an excursion on snowmobiles or a snowcat, and in the afternoon you are free. It is possible to go downhill or cross-country skiing (not included in the trip).

Day 5. Along the Katun and Chuya

We continue our journey along the Chuisky tract, admiring the ice-free Katun and Chuya and sparkling snowy trees.

Day 6. Kurai and Chuya steppes

Today we explore the Kurai and Chuya steppes. If weather conditions allow, we will reach Kyzyl-Chin. We will get acquainted with the culture and traditions of local residents in the ethnographic village.

Day 7. On the way back

It’s a pity, we are returning to Gorno-Altaisk. But we continue to stop in picturesque places.

After breakfast we will take you to the airport.

Details



Accommodation

We will stay in 3 accommodatians: 2 nights in each and 1 night in the hotel in Gorno-Altaisk. Rooms are for 2 or 3 people. In every room – WC and shower.



Level of fitness

Your level of fitness has to be moderate, most places are easy to reach, but some of the fantastic viewings points are only reachable after hiking up a mountain.



3 times a day in the cafes or cottages (all included). Lunch can be as a lunch-box.



Weather

The temperature can vary widely – from -5 till -30 °C. Days with heavy snowfall or strong winds are possible. So, the itinerary can be changed due to the weather conditions.


